Dear Sir / Madam
Re: Appealing
for peace and quiet on public transport
We note that you
are advertising on bus TV. At the moment, this broadcasting is over
loudspeakers, to a captive audience. There is no adequate quiet
zone, and passengers cannot turn it off or turn down the volume.
Many passengers
feel harassed every day by such broadcasts. We believe they are
likely to have a negative opinion of any product or service advertised
on bus TV.
According to the
Hong Kong Transition Project's recent independent survey, only 2%
of bus passengers 'greatly like', and 30% 'like' the broadcasts.
The survey also showed that about one quarter of passengers dislike
or greatly dislike bus TV and one third of daily bus commuters considered
bus TV programs to be noise pollution.
We understand
and respect your right to advertise in public places, but we feel
it should be in a manner consistent with a modern society that respects
freedom of choice.
The "Hush-the-Bus"
movement, on behalf of many passengers, would like to appeal to
you to help reduce noise pollution in Hong Kong and to restore passengers'
rights to peaceful and quiet journeys.
Thank you for
your attention. I am looking forward to your favourable and earliest reply.
